Skein/Yarn Rules

Definitions (for purposes of the above competitions):
Handspun – Handspun yarn is spun by the individual on wheel or spindle.
Novelty Yarns – Yarn must be spun using a defined technique and be well constructed (e.g.. boucle, corespun, tufted).

Each handspun article must be spun by the entrant. 
Work must have been completed between November 2008 and October 2009
Each skein must contain a minimum of 1.5 ounces of handspun fiber. Each skein must be 1-1/2 to 2 yards in circumference, wound neatly, and tied in at least 3 places. Failure to do so may disqualify the skein
All entrants must complete entry form in its entirety. Failure to do so may disqualify your entry or disqualify you from winning special awards.
Entries will be received at McGee Park from Friday, November 13th (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m) through Saturday, November 14th (9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (at Festival).
Mailed entries will be accepted only if they arrive no later than Thursday, November 12th. Entries received after that date will not be judged.
Mailed entries will not be returned unless accompanied by self-adhesive return address labels and adequate postage & packaging for such return.
Entries must be picked up between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15th.  Entries must be left on display until Sunday. Vendors wanting to return entries for sale in their booth may make arrangements with the show secretary.  Best of Lot, Best of Division and Best of Show entries must be left on display until Sunday.
Entries not claimed or mailed entries without return labels and postage shall become the property of the Best of the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival.
The Best of the Southwest assumes no responsibility for damage or loss of entries, but will make every effort to display and care for art work entered.
The Best of the Southwest reserves the right to retain photographs of selected skein or garment entries for use in future catalogs and publicity.
The Best of the Southwest gives the  non-vendor artists the opportunity to offer their competition pieces for sale. The price, along with the artist’s name, and other pertinent information will be posted on the art work at the conclusion of judging. A contribution of 10% of the sale price is required on all sales. The purchaser may make checks payable to the Best of the Southwest.
Contributions: $2.00 per entry.
Make checks payable to Best of the Southwest.
There will be a $35.00 charge on any checks returned for insufficient funds.

Finished Garments Rules

Definitions (for purposes of the above competitions):
Handspun – Handspun yarn is spun by the individual on wheel or spindle.
Hand Felted - (including Needle Felting) are totally produced by hand felting methods. Knitted or woven articles that have been fulled should be entered in "Combination of Techniques" competition

Each entry must be the work of the entrant.
Work must have been completed between November 2008 and October 2009
All entrants must complete entry form in its entirety. Failure to do so may disqualify your entry or disqualify you from winning special awards.
Entries will be received at McGee Park from Friday, November 13th (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m) through Saturday, November 14th (9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (at Festival).

Fleece Competition Rules

Entries must have been shorn between November 2008 and October 2009

Entrants need to indicate Breed, age of animal at time of shearing, and whether this is a product of a first shearing on their entry forms
All entries will be classified by the show secretary with input from the judge if needed; decisions of the competition staff on classification are final.
Class categories will be determined by the show secretary
Any entries that are not clean and properly skirted for show may be disqualified by the show secretary.
Entries must be picked up between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15th.  Entries must be left on display until Sunday. Vendors wanting to return entries for sale in their booth may make arrangements with the show secretary.  Best of Lot, Best of Division and Best of Show entries must be left on display until Sunday.
The Best of the Southwest gives the  non-vendor entrants the opportunity to offer their competition pieces for sale. The price, along with the artist’s name, and other pertinent information will be posted on the fleece at the conclusion of judging. A contribution of 10% of the sale price is required on all sales. The purchaser may make checks payable to the Best of the Southwest.

Photography Rules

Photographers are encouraged to explore the world of fiber animals, the beauty of the fiber arts and the culture and life style of the American Southwest. All photos must be related to these subjects. This competition is open to ALL photographers.

Minimum size of prints is 5” x 7”.

All entries must have been taken between November, 2008 and October, 2009.

Photos will be judged on composition and quality.

All photos must be mounted or framed and ready to hang with wire or hook.

Please write name, address and title of photo on the back of all photos.

Entries will be received at McGee Park Convention Center from Friday, November 13th at 11:00 am-4:00 pm through Saturday, November 14th from 9:00am-10:30 am. 

Mailed entries will be accepted only if they arrive no later than Thursday, November 12th. Entries received after that date will not be judged. Mailed entries will not be returned unless accompanied by self-adhesive return address labels and adequate postage for such return.

Entries must be picked up between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15th. Entries not claimed or mailed entries without return labels or postage shall become the property of the Best of the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival.   Winning entries must be left on display until Sunday.

The Best of the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival assumes no responsibility for damage or loss of entries, but will make every effort to display and care for photos entered.

The Best of the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival reserves the right to retain selected photographs to copy for use in future catalogs and publicity. Photographers will receive appropriate photo credit. These photos will be returned to exhibitors at Festival expense.

The Best of the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival gives the photographers the opportunity to offer their competition pieces for sale. The price will be posted on the entry tag. There will be a 10% commission on all sales. The purchaser can make checks payable to the Best of the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival.

Entry fee: $1.00 per photo. Make checks payable to Best of the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival. There will be a $30.00 charge on any checks returned for insufficient funds.
